Governance of public policies in Europe

Project on inter-regional cooperation in Europe

The project, started in 2007, aims at analysing the governance of inter-regional cooperation in Europe and its linkage with the processes of Europeanisation and nation-state restructuring. The goal of the research is to investigate the existing theoretical literature on inter-regional cooperation and to elaborate an analytical framework for guiding empirical research. The latter focuses on the instruments and practices of cooperation launched in Europe, with particular reference to experiences of cooperation among regions in the Alpine space.

URGE – Biblioteca della libertà

Since 2007 URGE cooperates with “Biblioteca della libertà”, a journal published under the auspices of Turin-based Centro Einaudi, which has analysed the challenges that ongoing transformations impose on contemporary liberal democratic societies for more than forty years. Every year, URGE’s researchers discuss in “Bdl” a hot topic related to European integration, which has not been sufficiently debated in Italy, illustrating its fundamental facets and analysing its possible implications. The topic which inaugurated the collaboration in 2007 was the Directive on services in the internal market, better known as the Bolkestein Directive. The topic tackled in 2008 is the European Union's contribution to the fight against discrimination based on age, sexual orientation and membership of a national minority.
