IECIS –
European Integration and Social Citizenship
(2004-2007)

The IECIS research project reconstructed the process of “nationalisation” of social rights in the course of the 20th century, and drew up a theoretical scheme for analysing the impact of the dynamics of supra-national integration on the national systems of social citizenship. It identified  the implications of supra-national integration for the principle of territoriality in the sphere of social protection and the possible scenarios of reconfiguration of social citizenship according to schemes of multi-level governance and nested citizenship.

New forms of labour (2005-2007)

The research on “Nuove forme di lavoro in Italia e in Piemonte: nuove opportunità o discriminazione” was carried out by URGE, in collaboration with Laboratorio R. Revelli, within the project Alfieri 2004, funded by the CRT foundation. The research investigated, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the aspects of labour market and the implications on welfare, governance and social relations deriving from the use of atypical employment contracts in Italy.

Working conditions, employment security and employability (2007)

This project, funded by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, was developed in collaboration with LABOR. Starting from a secondary analysis of the fourth European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) it elaborated a set of four new indicators strictly related to the debate on flexicurity: a) objective job security; b) subjective job security; c) employability; d) vulnerability. The objective was to identify the possible correlation among these indicators and between them and some institutional/political features at the country level, such as the OECD-EPL index, the level of unemployment benefit expenditure and the decommodification index. A specific focus of the analysis was devoted to the issue of gender discrimination.
