The
Research Unit on European
Governance (URGE) of the
Collegio Carlo Alberto is a research centre set up in
December 2003 at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in
Moncalieri,
in the hills south of
Turin.
Stefano Sacchi is its Acting Director.
The work of URGE is dedicated to
the study of European governance from a political science and political economy
perspective. This combination enables us to interpret in an original way
many political and institutional dynamics that are underway in European
countries and to better understand European governance and the interaction between
supranational, national and sub-national levels, also considering non-European experiences.
URGE's research work is organised
in three thematic areas:
- Governance of public policies
in Europe
- Social Europe
- Political development in Europe
Each of these thematic areas includes
projects, activities and research contributions. Moreover, URGE’s researchers provide analyses of developments related to EU social policies, interregional cooperation
and new modes of governance for local development.
URGE organises seminars and
conferences on vary issues related to its research themes. Furthermore, URGE
issues a series of working papers and publishes in-depth articles regarding EU social policies (Social Europe Issues),
as well as the online journal EG -
European Governance, which aims at offering reflections on European governance
and at promoting the debate on European integration. In addition,
URGE’s researchers annually edit a section of Biblioteca della libertà, the
journal of Centro Einaudi.
Finally, an important part of
URGE’s mission is to foster the education of PhD students and young researchers, through the organisation of courses, workshops and summer schools on European topics.
